How we research, and what we won't claim
Home Sauna Guide publishes people-first guides for home saunas and recovery - cold plunge and contrast therapy included. We would rather tell you what we do not know than fake authority. This page explains how our guides are built and the limits we hold ourselves to.
Where our information comes from
- Manufacturer specifications for dimensions, heater output, power draw, materials, and electrical requirements.
- Independent expert reviews and sauna communities for real-world performance, durability, and the failure patterns owners report.
- Electrical and building-code references for circuit, breaker, wire-gauge, chimney, and clearance guidance.
- Peer-reviewed studies and major clinics (for example JAMA, Mayo Clinic, Harvard Health, Cleveland Clinic) for any health information.
What we will not do
- We do not fabricate testing. If we have not personally used a product, we say so and recommend by format and use-case instead of inventing a hands-on verdict.
- We do not invent ratings. No made-up star scores or "best overall" trophies on gear we have not tested. We use Article, breadcrumb, FAQ, and list structured data only - never Review, Product, or AggregateRating markup without first-hand testing.
- We do not overclaim health. We present sauna and cold-water research conservatively, distinguish association from causation, cite primary sources, and never promise detox, weight loss, or disease cures.
- We do not hide money. Affiliate links are disclosed on every page and never change our recommendations.
Costs and estimates
Pricing on this site, including the sauna cost calculator, is presented as planning ranges synthesized from multiple 2026 industry sources and cross-checked against real build scenarios. Ranges are not quotes. For anything involving wiring, we tell you to get a written quote from a licensed electrician before buying.
Updates
Guides show a visible last-updated and last-reviewed date. As we add first-hand testing, we will publish those results separately and link them from the relevant guide rather than quietly rewriting history.
